IS VITAMIN C OK FOR DEHYDRATED SKIN?
The quick answer is YES!! If you have dehydrated skin, meaning lack of water/hydration, using a Vitamin C serum will help.
HOW?
First, let me explain the process of de-hydration. The technical name is transepidermal water loss (TEWL). The skin's natural water content is held in by skin's surface barrier. Think of it as a roof on your house. If that roof is old and leaking, not only can things leak IN (air pollution, rain, dust etc.) your house but things can also leak OUT (heat, hydration). If you do not have good insulation, your wasting a ton of money blasting the heat in winter only to still be cold as the heat leaks out.
Vitamin C helps support the skin barrier, minimizing moisture loss, or TEWL.... In other words, it supports the roof to stop the leaks!! A well-functioning skin barrier is essential for healthy, hydrated skin.
To those of you out there with dehydrated skin, consider adding a vitamin C serum to your skincare daily routine.
