ALL ABOUT OTC RETINOL
OTC RETINOL...
What it does:
Retinol is known to smooth skin texture, refine the look of pores, reduce dark spots, clear acne, boost collagen to smooth fine lines and smooth wrinkles (when used in an ongoing, consistent skincare routine). This is but a few benefits of retinol, however it must be used with care to minimize the possible side effects of dryness and/or irritation, sensitivity.
Here are a few tips and tricks to maximize benefits and minimize negatives.
Retinol is NOT FOR YOUNG SKIN! Sorry Gen Alpha's! There is some debate on the best age to start a retinol however around 35ish is commonly recommended unless under the supervision of a dermatologist for specific skin issues.
DAILY SPF USE IS A MUST! Please do yourself, and your skin a favor, and DO NOT use a retinol product unless you are dedicated to daily use of SPF!!
If you have sensitive skin or are just starting retinol.... GO SLOW AND SAFE... start with 2× a week, then SLOWLY build to more days a week to achieve your best results. You may build up to daily use every night, others may find a perfect balance at 3× or 4× a week. If you start to see dehydration, irritation, sensitivities re-evaluate how many nights a week is best for you.
I recommend a serum form of retinol so be sure to use a GOOD MOISTURIZER to re hydrate.
A good retinol is best used in your NIGHTTIME routine. There are retinol alternatives that state they can be used AM and PM however they are not as tested, studied as retinol.
I look forward to your comments, questions.
Wishing everyone HEALTHY SKIN!!
